On a night that the Royals celebrated the careers of their Senior Class, it was a Junior who came through in the clutch. The match started off at 145, where HSE’s Cam Roberts was pinned after building a large lead to put the Wildcats up 6-0. Jackson Williams came through with a win at 152 to tie it up 6-6 before Junior Ronan Hiner scored a decision at 160 to give HSE the lead 9-6. Freshman Ryan Cast lost a close one before his classmate Max Broom was Tech falled and Senior Luke Ferren was pinned giving the Wildcats a 20-9 lead. Then the Royals’ hammers came through. At 220, Andrew Irick got a quick fall before Senior Heavyweight Crae Kunkleman pinned his oppenent as well to put HSE back in front 21-20.
The lightweights came through for the Royals with Junior Sam Crousore getting a major decision at 106 to build the lead to 25-20. In one of the closest matches of the night, LN’s Wright was able to score an upset over #11 Ranked Royal Jake Simone 8-7 to bring the Wildcats back within 2.
At 120, Sophomore Jake Lemieux was dominant in his fall over Carrender of LN to extend the Royal lead to 31-23.
The Wildcats gave themselves a shot by scoring wins at 126 and 132 by decision to make it 31-30 going into the final match between Junior Reece Luhmann and his LN Opponent.
In a hotly contested match, the score was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation after several very close near takedowns. In the OT period, a wild scramble ensued, with Luhmann scoring the takedown just before time expired to win the match and the dual!
