The Royals were back to full strength for the first time this season with all 14 Varsity Starters in the line-up and the result was a 41-26 win over the #20 ranked Eagles. The Royals were led by Junior Wrestlers Sam Crousore, Jake Simone, Reece Luhmann, Jackson Williams, Ronan Hiner, and Andrew Irick as well as Seniors Luke Ferren and Crae Kunkleman who all won their matches with bonus points.
The Royals got the night started right with a first period fall at 113 from #11 ranked Jake Simone to take a 6-0 lead. The Eagles raced back winning the next 4 matches in a row, including a pin by #6 Ranked Logan Wagner at 132. Then the Royals turned the tide back their way by getting a big win from Junior Reece Luhmann at 145 before his classmates, Jackson Williams and Ronan Hiner got big falls at 152 and 160 respectively.
Zionsville won back to back matches to regain the lead 26-21 before the Royals hammered the door shut the rest of the way starting with Senior Luke Ferren in his Varsity Wrestling Debut, Ferren recorded a first period fall before Junior Andrew Irick, ranked #6 in his weight class, dominated his way to a first period fall as well.
Senior Crae Kunkleman dominated the HWT match before Junior Sam Crousore tech falled his opponent at 106 to cap the night off.
The win marks the Royals first win over a ranked opponent in 3 seasons and brings the season record to 1-1. The Royals are back in action at Frankfort HS at the Frankfort Super 6 this Saturday.
