Congratulations to the HCC Champions in Boys Swimming and Diving – your HSE Royals! It was one of those classic down to the wire affairs…with two events to go, the score was 348 (HSE) to 347.5 (Zionsville). Then with an event left, 391.5 (Zionsville) to 390 (HSE) which meant that it all came down to the last relay. With a championship on the line, the relay of Keegan Streett, Evan Sellers, Marcus Eden, and DJ Rogers got their hand on the wall less than a second ahead of the Zionsville group!

In meets this close, there is always a tendency to focus on the final race – those four boys secured the win for the Royals, but our team would have never been in the position to win without an outstanding day from every team member! The final 4 events were completely epic – 200 Free Relay of Keegan Streett, Zack Bostock, Andrew Christopher, and DJ Rogers Conference Champions and New Meet Record…100 Back – Marcus Eden, Ryan Harrison, and Ethan Forbes all with season bests and +13 in the points column…100 Breast – maybe Zionsville’s best event but Thomas Reising, Justin Voelker, and Andrew Truxall go 4th-5th-6th to keep the Royals in a position to win…400 Free Relay closes it out.

We certainly cannot ignore the effort in the first 8 events of the meet with several season bests – Evan Sellers in the 200 Free & 500 Free, Connor Harrison in the 200 IM & 100 Fly, Marcus Eden in the 200 IM, Gabe Ruiz in Diving, Andrew Christopher in the 100 Fly, Thomas Reising in the 100 Fly, and Noah Haines in the 200 Free.

It is very hard to win a championship in the toughest swim/dive conference in the state so we are really proud of these young men. They were unified and excited all day long plus just very very tough today. Your Royals were also steady and never got rattled – examples include Thomas Reising not arriving until after the meet had already started (he came from the DECA competition in a suit and tie), Keegan Streett leading off with DJ Rogers anchoring the two championship relays, and our other competing senior boys – Andrew Christopher, Marcus Eden, Ethan Forbes, Connor Harrison, Gabe Ruiz, Evan Sellers, and Andrew Truxall exhibiting true growth and maturity on the pooldeck throughout the meet.

So the mantra was…”we’re just getting started.” It remains to be seen how this plays out but things sure look pretty darn good right now. Your Royals are on a roll and they just need to keep pushing a bit longer – the incredible support of the Royal Nation fan-base definitely makes that easier and the crowd was fantastic today. Thank you to all of our supporters and we look forward to seeing you later this week.
