The Lady Royals improved their record Friday night to 4-0 with a win against FW Carroll in overtime.
The Lady Royals jumped out to an early 5 point lead by breaking Carroll’s disruptive full-court press. The Royals battled a very aggressive Carroll team throughout the second quarter and were able to hold onto a slight 4 point lead going into half time. The Royals saw some scoring trouble in the 3rd quarter, but were able to hang in the game behind a very physical defense. In a quarter where only 9 total points were scored HSE had only 2 of them. Heading into the 4th the Lady Royals were in uncharted water trailing 30-29. After a back and forth quarter the Lady Royals were down 3 with less than a minute to go when the Royals connected on a basket and the foul. The game was all tied with 4 seconds to go when Carroll drove down the lane and the Royals were able to get a defensive stop to take the game into overtime. Overtime started with a 41-41 score and the Lady Royals were able to capitalize on made free-throws in the overtime period to hold on to a 51-47 victory against a very good Carroll team.
