The Royals got a solid 5-0 win over Lebanon on Senior Night. It was a great night of tennis and of recognizing our 8 seniors and their families. We had 6 seniors in our varsity lineup tonight, and they all picked up wins! The senior doubles team of Mahek Chougule and McGuire Wolfe got the ball rolling for Royals as they picked up a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 doubles. They hit some amazing volleys tonight and really dominated the net. Next up was senior Elias Yarling who had a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles. Elias did a nice job attacking tonight and is really finishing well at the net. Our other senior doubles team of Matthew Parker and Matt Meyer got the third point for the Royals, winning 6-2, 6-3 at #1 doubles. They did a nice job of limiting their mistakes and forcing their opponents into errors. The 4th point for the Royals came from freshman Aiden De Witt who picked up a nice straight-set win at #1 singles against a tough opponent, winning 6-4, 6-3. They had some great points tonight and a lot of good battles, and Aiden hit the ball well, especially in the second set.

The 5th and final point came from senior Dante Cefali who was playing in his first varsity match. After playing JV doubles all season, Dante’s singles game was a little rusty in the first set, and he dropped it 2-6. The second set was much better, and you could tell he was starting to get his singles groove as he made less errors and became more comfortable coming in and finishing at the net. Dante played a great second set, winning 6-2 to force a third. In the third set, Dante got off to a hot start, getting up 3-0 right out the gate. However, then his opponent started playing better and Dante started cramping in his calf. However, Dante kept fighting as he was determined to get a win on his senior night. It was an epic battle as both teams watched and cheered every crucial, exciting point. After his opponent tied it up at 4-4, Dante dug in and stepped up and won the next two games in dramatic fashion beneath the setting sun to clinch the match and get him his first career varsity win! It was an epic win and an awesome way to end an excellent Senior Night!!

I want to say a very special thanks to our eight seniors and their families: Jeorgia Templin (4-year boys’ manager), Dante Cefali, Mahek Chougule, Adam Fullhart, Matt Meyer, Matthew Parker, McGuire Wolfe, and Elias Yarling. They have been a great group of seniors, their families have been extremely encouraging and supportive, and it has been a pleasure to coach them all over the past four years. It was great to see them all get wins tonight! Thank you for all that you have done for our tennis program! You are a special group!

The Royals improve to 9-4 on the year and will be back in action tomorrow night as they travel to Avon to play the first round of the HCC tourney (doubles only). They will also be in action on Saturday at Avon as they finish the HCC tourney. The freshman team will also be in action tomorrow as they host Zionsville.
