The #22 Royals had an impressive 5-0 win over #18 Guerin Catholic on Monday night. The #2 Doubles team of seniors Mahek Chougule and McGuire Wolfe got the ball rolling with a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-2. They attacked the net early and often and had 20 overhead and volley winners! Next up was senior Elias Yarling at #3 singles who played an excellent match, winning 6-1, 6-1. He did a great job of attacking short balls and had almost 20 winners in the match. Impressive! The third point came from the #1 doubles team of seniors Matthew Parker and Matt Meyer, who won 6-3, 6-3. They also did a nice job of eating up the net, accumulating 20 volley winners between the two of them. At #2 singles, Andrew Orme got down early to a tough opponent. After getting down 2-5 in the first, he continued to fight and ended up winning the next 5 games to take the first set 7-5. He then took that momentum into the second set where he won 4 out of the first 5 games before his opponent retired. Way to battle, Orme! The last match came down to Aiden De Witt at #1 singles. Aiden played an amazing first set, winning 6-0. However, his opponent elevated hit play in the second set, and it was a much closer set and was back-and-forth. Aiden had some opportunities up 5-3, 5-4, and 6-5, but his opponent kept coming up with some great shots when his back was against the wall. Eventually, Aiden fell 4-7 in the second-set tiebreaker, but it was a well-played set by both players. They played a 3rd-set super tiebreaker to decide the match, and like the second set, it was a dramatic, back-and-forth tiebreaker. Aiden got down early, but then battled back to tie it at 7-7. He got up match point 9-8, but then lost the next two points, to go down match point at 9-10, but then he executed a great approach shot and a perfect backhand volley to save match point and tie it up at 10-10. He then stepped up and won the next two points, to win the mach 12-10 in the super breaker. Whew! What a match! This was a big win for not only Aiden, but also for our team as it was good to get the 5-0 win against a team ranked higher than us. Great match, guys!

The Royals improve to 7-4 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday to finish their match against Franklin Central.
