One year ago, Homestead came in to the HSE Natatorium and crushed us in this meet. One week ago, Homestead beat us up at their meet. One night ago, we scored this meet out on paper – Munster wins going away. TODAY, the 10th ranked Royals won this meet in dominating fashion – no small feat considering that Munster (#4) and Homestead (#7) are both top 10 teams in the state!
The relays were absolutely key for the Royals today as this meet scores relays 3 deep – even though they only won the 200 Free Relay (Andrew Christopher, Zack Bostock, Keegan Streett, DJ Rogers), this was a huge area of points production from a depth standpoint. That is the main reason this was such a team win – we have a lot of guys fighting illness and some nagging injuries…the theme of the day was giving 100% of whatever each man had and that is exactly what we saw.
Meet team captains Marcus Eden and Andrew Truxall were particularly sharp. Marcus swam some different events today and was completely on track – he was focused and came to swim for his team showing some of the fastest relay splits of his career. Andrew was his normal consistent self in the Breaststroke events and then very fast as he continues to search for an additional event he can represent the team in. After recovering from a very nasty concussion in the Fall, he is really starting to be himself again – a great teammate who keeps the really tough days light and fun.
The lone event winner for the Royals today was Nathan Barr in the Diving – he was simply awesome. Meet runner-ups were AJ Ricafort in the Diving, Connor Harrison in the 100 Fly, and DJ Rogers in both the 50/100 Free events. DJ joined with Nick and Zack Bostock to post the Royals strongest event of the day in the 50 Free and he also dropped below 21 seconds in the 50 Free on a relay today which is a significant accomplishment but just the beginning.
These boys need to kick some tail on academic finals and get some rest – this team is definitely running ragged right now after 3 weeks of heavy competition. This week will be low intensity followed by the holiday break before heading off on the annual SIG (Southern Indiana Get-away) for 3 meets against some of the better teams in the south part of our state. Thanks Royal Nation – it is a privilege and an honor to represent you!
