Your Royals coaching staff knew something was up tonight as the guys looked really good in warm-up. They not only looked good, but were fully engaged and completely focused. This performance is notable as you can tell a lot about a team on a night like this – we were very impressed with the guys this evening.

Much of the fun for this meet came from our guys taking victories in the first 11 events – it was awesome to watch and it was particularly nice to see some of the younger guys gaining confidence from the actions of the older more experienced athletes.

In particular, 4 juniors really had a great night winning 2 individual events each – Evan Sellers was tough as nails – he certainly made it clear he was not losing tonight with his performances in the 200/500 Freestyle events. Andrew Christopher continues to show that he is becoming one of the elite swimmers in the state while winning the 100 Fly and 100 Back. Marcus Eden doesn’t seem to care which events we put him in – he just goes out and does his best for his team which tonight meant winning the 200 IM and the 100 Free. And DJ Rogers was as consistent as ever winning the 50 Free and taking the 100 Breast from the Shamrocks best swimmer.

Nathan Barr led a 1-2 sweep in the diving and looked strong – plus he was focused on the team all night long…he must have spoken with the coaching staff at least 10x about the team scoring. He is a great leader and one heck of a teammate! Justin Voelker was really good tonight as well – providing some of the depth we could not have won this meet without. Alex Kaminski had an amazing finish in the 200 Free and Logan Hess might have had the swim of the meet in the 500 Free.

In addition, there were some guys who did some things better tonight than we have previously seen: Thomas Reising was just fantastic – he raced hard, prepared better than any of his teammates for races, and was completely focused on his team. Nikita Egorov just flat out raced better than we have ever seen. Ethan Zentz really stepped and showed us that he has no intention of waiting past his freshman year to make his mark on this team and Owen Armstrong wants the Royal Nation to know that he is not just a promising young lacrosse player – he scored varsity points for the Royals tonight…in a pool, without a stick and not chasing a ball!

This meet was fun and the guys have a really nice chance to have another special meet this weekend with the Homestead Invite – look out Royal Nation, this team is coming together….and hey, how about that Royal Nation crowd tonight – they were rowdy and we liked it!
