Congratulations to your HCC Champions – winning the toughest swimming/diving conference in Indiana is no small task and it had not happened for a while…these guys wanted this one and they had to swim a complete meet to do it! Plus they had a blast doing it – championships are never won without taking the long road…the Royals stayed on task moving from one event to the next today until they were holding a trophy! Three young leaders stood out today – DJ Rogers, Connor Harrison, and Blake Ratliff helped this team stay on track and did so in very different ways.
DJ hates to loose but his focus today was on winning a championship – he is torn down and tired because that is where great swimmers are at this time of the season and he really had to fight in his individual events for two 3rd place finishes…events he would normally win. However, he was faster on both relays giving very special efforts – he dug deep to give more to his team than he gave to himself…true leadership for team swimming!
Blake did not swim as well as he wanted in the Thursday night dual meet but today he was amazing – he swam 4 special races! This was his last HCC championship meet and he swam it that way – there was no way he was going to let his team loose today…another example of selfless leadership!
Connor Harrison has shown his team that he can get into that zone and go on a mission – he is not one to do this for himself…it only happens when his team needs him and that was the case today. He swam as tough as we have ever seen him and not once used words like “me” or “I” – it was all “we” and “us” and WE all appreciated that he helped US win a title today.
This team can go a long way with these guys setting that sort of tone! The boys won all 3 relays today – sort of unheard of in the HCC! Hats off to Blake Ratliff, Andrew Truxall, Connor Harrison, Andrew Christopher, Marcus Eden, Keegan Streett, DJ Rogers, and Evan Sellers for combining to do that – they swam as fast in those 3 victories as any HSE group ever has!
And how about a freshman winning the Diving – way to go AJ Ricafort, you were an absolute force on those last 3 dives…and Nathan Barr, don’t think for one second people have not noticed your leadership – it has been noteworthy and consistent all season long!
Stepping on to the podium for the Royals today:
RUNNER-UP…Keegan Streett (200 Free), Blake Ratliff (200 IM & 100 Back), and Connor Harrison (100 Fly)
3rd-8th…Evan Sellers (7th-200 Free & 4th-500 Free), Marcus Eden (8th-200 Free & 8th-100 Back), Connor Harrison (3rd-200 IM), Andrew Christopher (6th-50 Free & 8th-100 Fly), Nick Bostock (8th-50 Free), Nathan Barr (3rd-Diving), Zack Bostock (7th-100 Free), Keegan Streett (5th-500 Free), Andrew Truxall (6th-100 Breast), and Thomas Reising (8th-100 Breast).
While it was a great day to be a Royal, there was no celebration or fanfare from these guys – they are just getting started!
