Both teams were strong on the hill in the State Championship game, but Hamilton Southeastern Royals Varsity defeated Columbus East 3-2. The Royals pitchers allowed just five hits to Columbus East.
HSE fired up the offense in the first inning, when Jack Dewolf singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring Cole DeWael who had doubled in his first at bat. In the top of the fifth inning, Columbus East tied things up at two. Anthony Eggers got a single and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Grayson Droste grounded into a fielder’s choice. Columbus East attempted to turn a double play which lead to an throwing error on the shortstop and advance Eggers home for the winning run.
Dewolf led Hamilton with two hits in three at bats and two RBIs. Brayton Harrison, Cam Bolling, Matthew Buckingham, DeWael, and Eggers each had a hit in the game.
Michael Dillon started the game for HSE. He went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three. Tyler Schweitzer got the win. He lasted three innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero.
HSE finished the season with an overall record of 23-8 and 10-4 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
