A matchup between #13 North Central and the #3 ranked HSE Royals led to fast racing and gutsy performances Thursday night. The Royals prevailed by a final of 111-75 but the meet was even closer than the final score showed.
While HSE was victorious in every event but one, the host Panthers picked up a lot of points by outracing the Royals’ second and third swimmers to keep the meet close. The biggest windfalls for HSE came late, outscoring North Central 11-5 in both diving and the 100 back to put the meet out of reach.
The biggest standout Thursday night was Kayleigh Witt, who had a great meet in winning a close 200 free and was a leader on relays all night. Sarah Ballard continues to be outstanding not just as a performer, but as an outstanding teammate, leader, and role model for younger student-athletes. And Bri Saple continues to be great on relays, holding on to a lead to close out a medley relay win, and giving the Royals an edge they didn’t give up on the 200 free relay.
HSE individual winners:
Sarah Ballard (diving, 239.65 points)
Kayleigh Witt (200 free, 1:55.57; 100 free, 54.04)
