Girls Varsity Lacrosse defeated Brebeuf 9-7 on Wednesday night. In a first half with turnovers on both sides of the field, the Lady Royals hit their stride and a strong defensive effort with a balanced attack put them on top.
The Royals snapped a three game losing streak after opening the season with a 23-0 route of Northridge. Adjustments on attack and transitions, along with strong draw controls gave the Royals the edge.
Megan Merryman scored a goal with 1:43 left to put the Royals ahead 8-7. Merryman scored again with 46 seconds left – her third goal of the game.
Rachel Harris added two goals and three assists, Chloe Szot had two goals, Sam Borgert tallied a goal and an assist, and Jenna Jenkins added a goal.
20 ground balls, 10 forced turnovers, and an interception made it tough for Brebeuf to get good looks at the goal.
Solid defense from Kayla Sundling, Ashlynn Green, Ella Zingraf, Olivia Schenck, and Olivia Castor led the charge.
Goalie Chloe Maddox had 5 saves for the Royals.
Varsity next hosts Roncalli on April 9 at 7:30pm.
