The #3 ranked HSE Royals took down a tough conference opponent Thursday night, beating #8 Zionsville 111-75 at home on Senior Night.
The Royals won with many athletes in off-events, showing their strength in the sprint freestyle events by sweeping the top three spots in the 50 and 100 frees, as well as touching first in both free relays.
The night was all about the 2020 senior class and celebrating their commitment to excellence over the course of their swimming and diving careers at HSE. Sarah Ballard, Abby Harter, Camille Joesten, Maddie McNarney, Lizzy McRanor, Ellie Pedersen, Madison Rossillo, Bri Saple, and Kayleigh Witt were recognized before and after the meet for their contributions to our program and their teammates.
Sarah Ballard won diving (252.70 points), Kennedy Fisher was a double winner in 50 freestyle (25.02) and 100 breast (1:08.26), and Molly Pedersen won the 100 free (53.93).
Bri Saple, Ashley Saple, Kennedy Fisher, and Amelia Vicory won the 200 free relay in 1:37.49. Ellie Pedersen, Molly Pedersen, Kayleigh Witt, and Abby Harter teamed up to win the 400 free relay (3:37.87).
In addition to event winners, standout performers for HSE included Amelia Vicory in the 100 free, who held off an opponent trying to chase her down; Abby Harter competing in the 500 free for the first time in recent memory (5:28.62); and Lizzy McRanor, who ignored her Senior Night tear-filled goggles to finish a great 100 breast (1:18.23).
One final highlight: Kayleigh Witt’s outstanding 100 fly time of 58.64 was a three-second drop from her lifetime best, which now ranks her 13th in school history in the event.
The Royals divers compete tonight (Friday, January 24) at the Warrior Diving Invitational at Warren Central. Next Saturday, HSE hosts the Reserves Championships, a taper meet for all athletes not competing as part of their school’s Sectional team. We’ll host conference opponents Zionsville, Noblesville, and Westfield.
