The Royals began their annual three-day Southern Indiana Getaway with dual meet victories over Bedford North Lawrence and host Jasper on Thursday afternoon.
Led by meet captains Madison Rossillo and Caitlyn Russell, the team showcased its depth in winning all three relays and sweeping the top two spots in the 200 medley relay and 200 free and the top three spots in diving and the 100 back.
The team continues to work on bringing a high level of energy to races and improving their enthusiasm in support of teammates.
One standout performer for the Royals was Amelia Vicory (50 and 100 free, 200 and 400 free relays). She took ownership of her meet preparation, was aggressive in stepping up to the challenge of racing tough competition in her individual events, and stayed engaged throughout the meet in supporting her teammates.
Emily Manship also impressed, with a strong breaststroke leg on the opening medley relay and another tough race in the 100 breast. She brings a great attitude and competitive spirit to practice each day and continues to work to improve in the pool and out.
Tatum Gardner executed on a few very challenging dives, placing fourth in today’s competition with 196 points. She has a unique ability not only to stay calm under pressure but also to remain cheerful even after a setback.
Individual event winners were Abby Harter in the 200 free, Ellie Pedersen in the 200 IM, Molly Pedersen in the 50 free, Halli Siwik in diving, Hannah Pugh in the 100 fly, and Kayleigh Witt in the 100 back.
Relay winners for the Royals were Makana Goss, Katherine Kesler, Kaleigh Stivers, and Bella Goss (200 medley); Brooke Ratliff, Bella Goss, Amelia Vicory, and DaBin Jung (200 free); and Sarah Juffer, Olivia Vicory, Kaleigh Stivers, and Amelia Vicory (400 free).
The Royals race again tomorrow at Bloomington South. The meet starts at 4 pm.
