The Royals beat the Cathedral Irish 11-9 on Friday night in the Semi-Finals to advance to the State Championship game on Saturday night. After a back and forth start with goals pouring in from both teams with Lukas DeVoe leading the charge for the Royals, it was the Culver Eagles advantage at half time 11-8. The Eagles were controlling the face-off X which made it very hard for the Royals to gain and keep possession. During the third quarter with 6:00 left in the quarter, the Royals were down 14-9… then the comeback started. With Nick Riina at the X and his senior teammates David Sage and Tyler Renschen on the wings, they quickly won possession, ran down the field and with 2 passes, the ball hit the back of the net, finished by Freshman Ryan Kemp. With the score now 14-10 the Royal crowd could feel the momentum rising. Nick Riina continued to dominate the ground balls off of the face-off and his wings helped out tremendously. Senior Keegan Logan and Freshman Ryan Kemp were the beneficiary of a lot of gritty tough plays by the midfielders. After a goal by Tyler Renschen and 2 by Ryan Kemp, it was Keegan Logan with the go ahead goal with 5:11 left in the game. The Royals defense held strong for the reminding time to seal the victory!
