Despite a rough start and some inconsistent performances down the stretch, the Royals battled to victory Thursday night on the road against Franklin Central.
The Royals won the opening medley relay despite trailing most of the way, but ultimately earning a crucial win. Senior Keegan Streett followed with a win in the 200 free, but Franklin Central responded by taking the top three spots in the 200 IM, outscoring HSE 13-3 in the event. A Flashes win in the 50 free gave them a six-point lead heading into the break.
Senior Jack Bisesi won the diving competition, with teammate Noah Ebeyer taking second, less than ten points behind. Senior Thomas Reising led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 fly, followed by Streett’s second individual victory of the meet in the 100 free (47.85).
Sophomore Charlie Rogers won a close – and crucial – 100 back, and junior Matt Truxall picked up his third individual win of the season by leading a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breast.
Relay victories added to the HSE lead and the Royals came away with a victory that was closer than the final score indicated.
In addition to event winners, standout performances included freshman Jack Waren and sophomore Jason Hua in the 100 fly, and senior Logan Hess and sophomore Skyler Listenfelt in the 100 free.
