Tonight the Royals Boys Freshman team traveled to North Central for their first match of the season, and they showed that the future of Royals tennis is strong. Nolan Houseman got us started at 2 singles with a solid 6-0;6-0 victory, followed very soon after by Garrett Brown at 3 singles with his own double bagel win. Next off the court was 3 doubles team of Cason Harlan and Ishaan Prasad who finished off their first opponent with a solid 8-4 win. While 4 doubles of Sam Jacobs and Adam Wowk also got the victory over their first opponent 6-4. While this was going on, 1 singles of Abhi Chaddha was completing the sweep of the singles courts 6-2;6-1. However the match of the night just might of been on the 1 doubles court of Charlie Orris and Christian Escasa, who had to fight back from a first set loss of 2-6, to win the second set 6-3 and force a deciding super tie-breaker…..which then then won 10-4. Some of the points they played were a treat to watch. The 2 doubles team of David Hosei and Vincent Ostrowski also had a great come back. After losing the first set in a very close 4-6; they stayed strong and forced a second set tie-breaker, and if not for a few lucky breaks by the north central team, they might have pulled that one out. Rounding out the day was 3 doubles of Cason and Ishaan getting their second win 8-4, followed by 4 doubles of Adam and Sam coming up just short on their come-back in the last set.
All and all, our boys played great tonight. Everyone, from singles to doubles teams, top to bottom all played attacking tennis. Getting to the net and finishing points off. I was very proud of how our boys played tonight……and this is just the start of our Freshman season. Let’s build on this victory and keep on working.
