The Royals Freshmen Football Team traveled to Avon on Saturday to begin conference play in the always tough HCC of Central Indiana. The host team would score on their first offensive drive to take the lead in the first quarter. After moving the ball past midfield with good hard running by Blaine Wertz, the visitors in white jerseys were forced to punt with Alex Geroulis putting the ball inside the Avon 10 yard line. The Royals would come up with a sack after pressure by Wyatt Molander would force the quarterback into Will Gerig to keep him contained and allow his teammates to come halt any escape. The defense would get a big stop on 4th down on a jet sweep play by the Orioles as Louden Sundling and Noah Wolf would come up to make the tackle. Geroulis would once again come up with field changing punt for the Royals after the offense was unable to convert. The first quarter would end with the Orioles up 8 – 0. The Orioles would add two more scores in the 2nd quarter on offense. Sundling would get a tackle for loss on an Avon screen play in the alley.

The defense would force a punt in the 3rd quarter and the offense would begin to move the ball in the air and take advantage of costly penalties by the Orioles including a big roughing the passer penalty that was tacked on to a completed pass from Cam Howard to Sundling. The offense would move the ball inside the red zone of the Orioles but would be unable to come away with points on the drive. Later in the 4th quarter, Geroulis would again get a great roll after his punt downfield to pin the ball inside the 5 yard line. The host team would drive the ball down the field and the defense would take advantage of a botched snap to put the Orioles behind the first down markers. With the score, 36 – 0, in favor of the Orioles, the home team would attempt a trick play on 4th down with a Jet Sweep Reverse which would result in a penalty. The home team would then again run another trick play on 4th down by running the Jet Sweep and fake the reverse this time and the Royals defense would prevent the first down and give the ball back to the offense. Howard would complete passes to Jaden Smith, Jack Wafford, Dagan Fowley, and Sundling on the day.

The Royals will be home next Saturday to host their cross town rivals, the Fishers Tigers, in the annual Mudsock game for Freshmen Football.
