The #5 HSE Royals got an impressive 5-0 win over #26 Brownsburg, winning 5-0. All matches were won in straight sets. Our singles girls came out and set the tone early, with Tea Vrkic getting a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles, Taylor Wolf following with a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Emma Bieberich clinching the match for us at #3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. It’s always nice to get those first 3 matches won quickly, and then our attention was on the doubles teams. Brownsburg had rearranged their lineup to strengthen their doubles teams, but our doubles teams showed how strong they are tonight as they both still won in straight sets. The #1 doubles team of Emily Orme and Mish Bukkasagaram won their match 6-1, 6-4. They dominated play at the net and did a nice job of closing out the match when things were close in the 2nd set. This was a big win for them. The #2 doubles team of Meghan Slaninka and Kaylee Etheredge also won in convincing fashion, winning 6-3, 6-0. They also dominated at the net, and it was good to see them get back on track. Both doubles teams played really well tonight, and I was proud how they stepped and rose to the challenge.
The Royals finish the HCC regular season with an undefeated dual record of 7-0! Our overall record is now 11-1. We also set ourselves up for some very good seeds at the conference tournament, which starts on Thursday, by winning 31 out of 35 individual matches. But first, we will be back in action tomorrow night as we host Lawrence North and we honor Tea Vrkic for her Senior Night!
