The Lady Royals Track Team came home with a trophy for the first time from the State Track Meet on June 3. The team led the meet until the last event when Warren Central won the 4×400 in dominating fashion to claim the team title with 55 points and the Lady Royals finished a strong second with 46. The night started off with a state championship for Kennedy Drish in the pole vault at 12′ which broke her own school record and a 5th place finish from Jessica Bray at 11′ 3″. Mia Mackenzie and Camille Christopher posted fast times in the trials of the 100 hurdles, and 100 and 200 respectively. Christopher’s time of 24.31 in the 200 broke her old school record of 24.60. That set up the team for important team points later in the meet. Next up were the finals where Mackenzie ran a personal best of 14.64 in the 100 hurdles for 3rd place and Christopher ran an excellent 11.87 in the 100 dash for 4th. The 4×100 relay was the most exciting race of the night as the top 3 were separated by 8 hundredths of a second. The team of Olivia Burgess, Tierra Sydnor, Mackenzie, and Christopher ran 47.19 (school record) to beat crosstown rival Fishers for the first time this season making it a very sweet state championship over 2nd place Brebeuf (47.21) and 3rd place Fishers (47.27). Mackenzie and Christopher were not done, both recording 6th place finishes in their final races. Mackenzie in the 300 hurdles and Christopher in the 200 dash. Sydnor also ran the 400 dash, just 2 races after the 4×100 victory and finished 15th as did Lulu Black in the 3200 run.
