Matthew Buckingham collected four hits in five at bats, as Hamilton Southeastern Royals defeated Mt. Vernon 14-5 on Tuesday. Buckingham singled in the second, doubled in the third, singled in the sixth, and singled in the seventh.
An early lead helped propel the Royals to victory. The scoring started in the second inning on a single by Matthew Buckingham that drove in two runs and a single by Jacob Garcia to drive in another run. In the third inning the Royals tacked on three more runs by a double by Trenton Schneider and a double by Buckingham.
Andrew Morlen earned the win. He pitched two innings, allowing three runs, and three hits. Dalton Hutchinson threw two innings, as three relievers helped finish off the victory. Sam Bachman threw for two innings and Rutger Poiry contributed with one inning of pitching.
Hamilton Southeastern Royals collected 15 hits. Matthew Buckingham, Tyler Jahanshahi, Hutchinson, Schneider, and Brock Burns each collected multiple hits. Buckingham went 4-5 with 5 RBIs and Schneider went 3-2 with 3 RBIs.
Up next for the Royals is a 3-game series with conference foe, Zionsville starting on Thursday night at Ken Seitz Field. First pitch is at 6:00 pm.
