Hamilton Southeastern Royals took the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Avon on Saturday. HSE took an early lead in the second inning on an error that scored two runs. In the bottom of the third inning, Avon tied things up at two. The game was tied at two with HSE batting in the top of the fifth when there was an error, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. The Royals pitchers struck out nine and both runs were unearned. Owen Callaghan earned the win for Hamilton Southeastern Royals. He went five innings, giving up four hits, and striking out seven. Dalton Hutchinson recorded the last six outs to earn the save.
Trenton Schneider led the Royals with two hits including a stand-up double. Tyler Sivak and Zach Boyle both each drove in one run.
The Royals will play the second game of the three game series at 4:30.
