Ohio Valley Hoops Classic (vs. Lakota East, Oh)

Game Recap

The Royals boys basketball team traveled to Hillsboro, Ohio to play Lakota East High School as part of the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic on Saturday night. Playing for the second night in a row and having a long bus ride, the Royals struggled to find energy in the first half offensively and defensively as HSE found themselves down 31-22. Their intensity picked up in the 3rd quarter, but they were still down by 8 points going into the 4th quarter. This is when the Royals showed how good defensively they can be as they created 4 Lakota East turnovers and held them to 6 points on 22% shooting in the 4th quarter to complete an exciting comeback for a 55-51 victory. The Royals got a big spark off their bench defensively from Zach Mutchner and Chaz Birchfield as they helped to shut down Lakota East’s Jarret Cox down the stretch (only 2 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter). Offensively, the Royals were led by 2 of their senior guards in Connor Rotterman and Jack Davidson. Rotterman finished 5-9 from the field with 14 points. Davidson led the way going 6-8 from the field for 16 points and drawing a charge on Lakota East’s Evan Kuhlman (University of Evansville commit) in the final minute to help seal the game. Davidson was voted the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic game MVP. The Royals are now 3-0 for the season. Next game will be Friday, as the Royals host a top 5 team in North Central, led by UCLA commit Kris Wilkes. Come out and help support the Royals in what should be an exciting and fast paced game.
